The family who owns and manages Hotel Playa Negra also owns a 1000 acre “finca” (farm land with abandoned pastures and tropical forest) at only one mile from the beach. This farm is mostly constituted by hills covered with secondary dry topical forest and is the watershed for the main water streams of the Los Pargos-Playa Negra area. In line with the hotel’s philosophy and with the purpose of protecting water resources and the tropical forest with its biodiversity, flora and fauna, most of the farm is under a protection program since 1990.
Also, with the goal of offering local quality products, both fresh and organic, at its restaurant, Hotel Playa Negra has started in year 2007 an experimental project of vegetable growing and of farm eggs production, located on the lower part of the farm. This project now provides lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, eggplants, bell peppers, basil and mint cultivated in a hydroponics greenhouse without pesticides.
